Tomb Raider sells

Tomb Raider sells

Eidos, the British gamemaker behind the "Tomb Raider" franchise, has agreed to be purchased by Japanese vidgame company Square Enix for $120 million.

Small sum will significantly hurt Warner Bros., which owned 20% of Eidos, and is now expected to lose $93 million should the deal be approved by investors. It had invested $30 million in Eidos last year on top of the initial $87 million it put into the company in 2006.

Square Enix is buying out WB's stake for $24 million.

Scarlett Johansson is Black Widow

Although there has not been an official announcement from Marvel, sources have confirmed that Scarlett Johansson has been approached for the role and is interested in the project.
It seems the scheduling conflict between Gulliver's Travels and Iron Man 2 that Emily Blunt is facing has prompted Marvel Studios to begin discussions with other actresses to fill the role of Black Widow.

Green Lantern movie may have director

Green Lantern movie may have director

Source:
Variety.Com

Read the story below:

Warner Bros. is negotiating with Martin Campbell to direct "Green Lantern," the live-action film based on the DC Comics hero.
Campbell last directed "Casino Royale" and recently wrapped the Mel Gibson starrer "Edge of Darkness," based on the 1985 BBC miniseries that Campbell helmed.

The emergence of Campbell, who also helmed two "Zorro" films and the 007 film "GoldenEye," puts "Green Lantern" at the top of DC properties being set for movie treatment by WB. While the studio is hoping director Chris Nolan will follow its 2008 smash "The Dark Knight" with another Batfilm, DC projects such as Superman and "Justice League" were expected to happen quickly, but have stalled.

Instead, the hot DC titles are "Green Lantern" and "Jonah Hex," the latter of which has Josh Brolin set to play a disfigured gunslinger in a film that begins production in April, directed by Jimmy Heyward ("Horton Hears a Who").

Greg Berlanti wrote the script with Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green.

Donald DeLine will produce with Berlanti.

Samuel Jackson Not Nick Fury

Samuel Jackson Not Nick Fury

In news that makes me want to puke. Stories are being broke around the web of Samuel L. Jackson not coming back due to a pay dispute with filmmakers. For my own take oh jesus no. One of the fired up moments of Iron Man was the great Sam Jackson showing up at the end. I hope filmmakers decide to up the bread and pay the man. We already lost Terrence Howard. I love Don Cheadle and frankly we got an upgrade in the acting totem pole however, I hate it due to consistency issues. Make sure this happens. Thanks to Comicbookmovie.com

Fox and WB reach settlement for Watchmen

Fox and WB reach settlement for Watchmen

Warner Bros. and Fox have settled their very public battle over "Watchmen." A deal has been hammered out that that gives WB some face-saving points, but which gives Fox the equivalent of a movie star’s gross participation.
Warner Bros. gets the right to open its superhero pic on March 6 as planned, and Fox's logo will not be on the film, sources said.

Fox, on the other hand, will emerge with an upfront cash payment that sources pegged between $5 million and $10 million, covering reimbursement of $1.4 million the studio invested in development fees, and also millions of dollars in legal fees incurred during the case.

More importantly, Fox will get a gross participation in "Watchmen" that scales between 5% and 8.5%, depending on the film’s worldwide revenues. Fox also participates as a gross player in any sequels and spinoffs, sources said.

Thor Movie Has New Character

A reliable source tells the IESB that the character of Donald Blake has been added to the end of the script. Let me reiterate that he wasn't there before, the script was set entirely in the land of the Norse Gods.

The introduction of the character is essential to how Marvel will tie Thor into the Avengers that is set in contemporary Tony Stark/Hulk timeframe. It explains how the actual Thor film will be set in the ancient time of the Norse Gods and how they will subsequently bring the character into a modern time with Donald Blake discovering the magical Norse hammer Mjolnir and turning into Thor.

The site adds that Thor director Kenneth Branagh will have an acting part in the film as well.

Thor is coming to theaters on July 16, 2010 and The Avengers a year later on July 15, 2011.

Mickey Rourke and Sam Rockwell Iron Man 2 Villians

Rourke and Rockwell are the Iron Man 2 Villains!
Source:The Hollywood Reporter, Variety January 7, 2009

Mickey Rourke (The Wrestler) and Sam Rockwell (Frost/Nixon) are in talks to star as the villains in Marvel Studios' Iron Man 2, being directed by Jon Favreau from a script by Justin Theroux, according to Variety and The Hollywood Reporter.

THR says that Rourke would play a tattooed Russian heavy named Ivan who becomes a man with deadly, technologically enhanced coils. Variety adds that Rourke would play the Crimson Dynamo. "He's considered to be an evil version of Iron Man because he battles the superhero in a nuclear-powered suit of armor," says the trade.

Rockwell would play Justin Hammer, a multibillionaire businessman and a rival of industrialist Tony Stark, AKA Iron Man, being played by a returning Robert Downey Jr.

Rourke and Rockwell would be joining a cast that also includes the returning Gwyneth Paltrow and Don Cheadle, who is replacing Terrence Howard.

Another part -- one for Stark's assistant Natasha -- is still open.

The project is eyeing a spring start in Manhattan Beach. Paramount will release the movie May 7, 2010.

DC Comics Put The Flash and Super Max on hold

If you’re one of the DC Comics faithful and were hoping the dual box office successes of “Iron Man” and “The Dark Knight” would mean more familiar properties on the big screen, you might be disappointed. According to “Dark Knight” scribe David Goyer, many DC Comic films in development at Warner Bros. are currently in a holding pattern — including his planned adaptation of “The Flash” and his Green Arrow prison-break caper “Super Max.”

“A lot of the DC movies at Warner Bros. are all on hold,” Goyer told IESB. “They’re going to come up with some new plan, methodology, things like that so everything has just been pressed pause on at the moment.”

Goyer said the timing was no surprise, either.

“It was the doubleheader of both ‘Iron Man’ and ‘The Dark Knight’ coming out,” said Goyer, “so more than ever I think they’ve realized, I think DC was responsible for 15 percent of Warner Bros’ revenue this year, something crazy like that, so they realized that comic books, it’s become a new genre, one of the most successful genres.”

Still, you’d think that after “Iron Man” grossed $318 million domestically, while “The Dark Knight” did $531 million in the US, studio execs would be fast-tracking every comic book hero they could get their hands on. However, for each superhero blockbuster there are two or three disappointments (see: “Superman Returns,” “Hulk,” “Punisher: War Zone”). At the same time, “Iron Man” and “Dark Knight” weren’t your typical super hero flicks. It seems Warner Bros has taken a look at these adaptations — and their huge profits — and decided to rethink their approach to other comic book properties.

With the economy looking to make 2009 and beyond potentially shaky years at the box office, WB could be thinking that its DC properties are far too valuable to screw up.

Super Max Prison Movie A Go

Green Arrow "Supermax" Movie is Definitely Happening
Take the Green Arrow, stick him into a prison full of some of the most cutthroat supervillains of all time, and get David Goyer (Batman Begins) to write the whole thing.

Sounds like a dream, right? Well, David Goyer's MySpace blog certainly seems to prove that sometimes, dreams come true.
Super Max Prison Movie A Go

Described by Goyer as "a prison-break story set in a jail designed exclusively for super-villains," Supermax (let's hope they don't actually call it that) will concern the framing of the Green Arrow, who (arrowless, and, if forced into prison garb, likely not green either) will have to simultaneously find a way to escape the prison whilst surviving the attacks of the inmates he put there in the first place.

The story isn't based on any specific comic, making this potentially one of the first films to take place in the DC universe without ever using a specific, pre-existing comic storyline as a point of reference. The film is just a matter of taking the Green Arrow and pitting him against as many badass B-list supervillains that Goyer can think of.

This movie is going to kick so much ass, it isn't even funny.
